These pants are very similar to pants that I wore well over a decade ago with soccer shorts or basketball shorts underneath. They were to help keep you warm until you were ready to play – usually while you waited on another game to finish. The zipper legs are so you didn't have to remove your shoes to put them on and off. Now they seem to be more exclusively sold as rain gear often for hiking. The material does a really good job of blocking wind and it is lined thinly with fabric which will help with holding in heat. I wear 36" waist jeans and the pants fit me well – they wouldn't fit well for someone any larger. I have a 30" inseam and these are a tad too long for me. Not terribly so, but I expect the back of the legs will get stepped on some leading to premature wear. The fabric heft is good enough quality to last quite a few outings and still thin enough to pack fairly easily. I don't expect them to survive 5 years but the value is still there. I haven't washed them or worn them in rain yet so I don't know how well they repel water yet. I an tell they will work fine for my needs since I only occasionally am caught in downpours and I wanted a wind breaker as much as water protection. The grey is pretty dark which is fine, but they aren't really helpful for making visible around traffic at night.
