The Workout: Today was my first official session, and it completely humbled me. The intensity and quality are exactly what you'd expect from a commercial-grade machine.
Ceiling Height: It is a tall unit. It works perfectly in my home gym/garage because I have 11-foot ceilings, leaving me with PLENTY of comfortable overhead clearance. If you don't have high or vaulted ceilings, definitely measure first!
Overall, I am so happy I made this investment. Worth every penny!
I was honestly a little nervous purchasing this stair stepper because of the price. Compared to the commercial units at the gym, it seemed almost too affordable, and there really aren’t many detailed reviews online. I found only a couple of in-depth online reviews, but both reviewers seemed knowledgeable and appeared satisfied with the machine, so I decided to take a chance.
The unit arrives in a large wooden crate. Once I removed the sides of the crate, it became much easier to work with. The biggest challenge wasn’t assembly—it was getting the machine from the crate, up a few steps, through some narrow doorways, and into my home gym. Removing some of the side covers from the machine itself also provided much better handholds and gripping points, which made moving it a lot easier. Once inside, a friend and I were able to lift and reposition it without too much trouble.
Assembly was mostly straightforward, but the instructions for installing the monitor could be clearer. The directions don’t really explain that you need to remove the back panel and unscrew the pre-installed monitor bracket before mounting the display. Not a huge deal, but it took me a few minutes to figure out.
I’ve only had it a short time, but so far it’s been working well for what I wanted. The stepping motion feels smooth, and I haven’t run into any issues. Personally, I don’t pay much attention to heart rate, calorie counts, or most of the built-in metrics. My goal is simply to get 30 minutes or 2,000 steps in, and it has fit that need well.
One thing I did was mount a tablet above the console. I usually watch hiking trail videos, or use fitness apps while stepping, which makes the workout go by much faster.
Like a lot of people considering this machine, I was hesitant because there wasn’t a ton of detailed information available online. Since I found other user reviews helpful when making my decision, I figured I’d share my experience after getting mine set up and putting some time on it….
This is the perfect stair climber! I did a lot of research & continued to come back to this one. We were able to get it up our stairs & into the bedroom. That was tough to watch my husband & his friend do it but they made it look effortless. Lol! I suggest a shoulder dolly.
It works perfectly, it’s not super noisy & the price was perfect too! It doesn’t have a fancy screen but don’t really care to have the extra features.
This stair master is NOT like what you’d experience in a commercial gym. It doesn’t seem to actually have an electric motor to rotate the stepper, instead it relies on your body weight to rotate the stairs. This sounds fine, but it feels entirely different from a traditional stair climber. Things like leaning onto the handlebars for any duration will cause the machine to noticeably slow down a bit, as you’ve shifted some of your weight off of the stairs themselves.
In addition our stair climber came in with the screen scratched and the button panel is warped (it’s essentially a giant sticker).
Lastly the cable management within the machine is terrible. Within 5 seconds of turning it on for the first time, a stair tread grabbed ahold of a wire within the machine and literally tore the wire out of the machine… this left it inoperable. I had to wedge open the stair tread to pull the wire out, and then take apart the machine to repair the wire. I then proceeded to try to tape the wires back to prevent this from happening again…
This machine is sold through Prime, but DO NOT assume that means you have returns covered. I initiated a return request, which was approved, but it’s up to me to source a company to come pick it up from my house and ship it back to Nebraska, and it’s up to me to pay to return this 600 lb crate…
I would not recommend this product and would advise anyone to buy something like this in person if possible.
